Alloy and Ores of Metals

What are Alloys ?

These are made up of Two or more than Two Metals and Non-metals.

Important Alloys :-

1. Brass :- Copper (Cu) + zinc (Zn)

2. Bronze :- Copper (Cu) + Tin (Sn)

3. Steel :- Iron (Fe) + Nickel (Ni) + Chromium (Cr) + Carbon (C)

Note : Carbon add for Hardness.

4. Gun Metal :- Copper (Cu) + Zinc (Zn) + Tin (Sn) + Lead (Pb)

5. Nichrome :- Nickel (Ni) + Chromium (Cr)

6. German Silver :- Copper (Cu) + Nickel (Ni) + zinc (Zn)

Note : In German Silver, No Silver is added.

7. Solder :- Lead (Pb) + Tin (Sn)

8. Rose Gold :- Gold (Au) + Copper (Cu)

9. Electric Fuse :- Lead (Pb) + Tin (Sn)

Ores of Metals.

Ores of Metal are naturally found minerals or rocks from which metals can be extracted economically. Generally, They contain a high concentration of a specific metal, along with other Elements. The Extraction process involves Mining and Refining to obtain pure Metal.

Important Ores :-

1. Iron :- There are 4 Ores of Iron.

a. Magnetite (Fe3O4) [This is Best Ore]

b. Hematite

c. Siderite

d. Limonite

2. Aluminum :- Bauxite

3. Copper :- Cuprite

4. Calcium :- Dolomite

5. Silver :- Horn Silver (AgCl)

6. Uranium :- Pitchblende

7. Gold :- Calaverite

8. Lead :- Galena (Pbs)

9. Mercury :- Cinnabar (Hg S)

10. Tin :- Cassiterite
