Metal and it's Properties.

 

How many Metal are there in Periodic Table ? 

In Periodic Table, there are total 118 Elements in which 93 Metals, 18 Non-Metals and 7 Metalloid.

Property of Metals :- 

1. All Metals are present in Solid State. Except Mercury. it is a Liquid Metal and represent by symbol (Hg) which means Hydrargyrum that is a Latin word.

Some points of Mercury :- Mercury is used in the Thermometer because of High thermal expansion and Liquid state. It does not stick with glass of Thermometer.

Mercury is also known as Quick Silver due to shine in darkness like Silver.  

Coin float on this Metal because it has High surface tension.

Mercury is a Poisonous Metal.

Mercury when combined with any other metal, it form Amalgam.

Like Mercury combine with silver then form Silver amalgam and Mercury combine with Zinc then form Zinc Amalgam.

Note : Mercury never form Amalgam with Iron, Lead, Platinum, Gold. 

Mercury vapor is used in Tube light.

2. Metal are Good Conductor  of Heat and Electricity.

Most conductive metal is Silver then Copper.

Silver : It's symbol Ag means (Argentum, a Latin word). Silver foil is used in Packing of food Material because silver is Antibacterial Metal.

Copper : These was First metal used by Human being. 

Copper is responsible for Wilson Disease.

Rusting of Copper is a Green color Layer deposit on its body. it known as Copper Carbonate Copper Hydroxide.

When heat the copper. It change color into Red hence, it is also known as Red Metal.

Least Conductive Metal = Zinc

3. Metal are Malleable. Malleable means metal can convert into thin sheet by applying Force.

Most malleable Metal = Gold.

Gold :- It represent by symbol Au means Aurum (a Latin Word). Gold is also known as King of Metals. 

Least Malleable Metal = Nickel.

4. Metal are Ductile. Ductile means it convert into thin wires.

Most Ductile Metal = Gold (Au).

Least Ductile Metal = Mercury (Hg).

5. Metals have High Melting Point.

Most Melting Point metal = Tungsten (W mean Wolfram).

Least Melting Point Metal = Mercury (Hg).

6. Metals have High Density.

Most Dense Metal = Osmium.

Least Dense Metal = Lithium.

Lithium is the first metal in Periodic Table.

7. Most Reactive Metal = Potassium (K) then Sodium (Na).

Least Reactive Metal = Platinum (Pt) then Gold (Au).

8. Metal are Lustrous and Sonorous.

Other facts :-

Most Abundant Metal in Earth Crust :- Aluminium (Al) approx 8 percent.

Iron is main component of Blood.
