Non-Metals and Metalloids of Periodic Table.

In Periodic table, there are 18 Non-Metal.

Properties of Non-Metal

1. Non-metal are present in Solid or Gas State.

Except :- Bromine (Br) is a Liquid Non-metal.

2. Non-metal are Bad Conductor of Heat and Electricity.

Except :- Graphite (Non-metal) is Good Conductor of Heat and Electricity.

3. Non-metal are not Luster, not Sonorous.

Except :- Diamond, Iodine.

4. Non-metal are not Malleable and Not Ductile.

5. Most reactive Non-metal is Fluorine.

6. Least reactive Non-metal is Helium.

Helium is used in Artificial respiration.

Some Important Points of Non-metals.

1.Most Abundant Non-metal in Earth Crust is Oxygen (O2).

2. Hydrogen :- Discovered by Henri Cavendish. Hydrogen is called Future Fuel. It is the Lightest Gas.

3. Phosphorous :- Phosphorous has three Types.

Red Phosphorous = It is used in Match Stick.

Black Phosphorous = It is used in Cancer Therapy.

White Phosphorous = White Phosphorous is preserved in cold water because it is So much reactive. It is used in Smoke Bomb.

4. Chlorine :- It is discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1774. It is used in Bleaching. Bleaching means To remove the Color. It is also used in Making the Bleaching Powder.

What is Metalloids ?

These are the Elements which Behave as Non-metal up to the Room Temperature. But when we Increase the Temperature. They behaves likes Metals.

There are 7 Metalloids in our Periodic Table.

1. Boron (B)

2. Germanium (Ge)

3. Arsenic (As)

4. Antimony (Sb)

5. Polonium (Po)

6. Tellurium (Te)

7. Silicon (Si)

Note :- Most Abundant Metalloid in Earth Crust is Silicon (27 Percent in Earth Crust).
