What is Nuclear Reaction ?

In these type of reaction, only Nucleus will participate but Electron will not participate.

Types of Nuclear reaction

There are two types of Nuclear reaction.

Nuclear fusion = When two or more than two small nucleus combine and form a large, heavy nucleus with heat released.

Example :- Sun, Hydrogen Bomb.

Father of Hydrogen Bomb :- Edward Teller.

Nuclear fission :- when a large nucleus breakdown into many small nucleus. This is called Nuclear fission.

Example :- Atom Bomb.

Note : Nuclear fusion are uncontrolled but nuclear fission can be controlled.

History of Atom Bomb

first atom bomb (name : Little Boy) was made by Robert Oppenheimer. Hence, Robert Oppenheimer is call Father of Atom Bomb. Shape of Little Boy was Van shape.

In World War 2, America dropped two nuclear bomb on Japan's cities.

 

Name of First bomb was Little boy. Uranium was used in little boy as a fuel. It was dropped on Hiroshima, 6 August 1945. 

Name of Second Bomb was Fatman. Plutonium was used in Fatman as a fuel. It was dropped on Nagasaki, 9 August 1945.

Till now, India has done 2 Experiments of Atom Bomb.

First Test, In 18 May 1974 Name : Pokhran (1) with Title Smiling Buddha.

Second Test, In 11 May 1998 Name : Pokhran (2) with Title Operation Shakti.

What is Nuclear Reactor ?

In 1942, Nuclear reactor was designed by Enrico Fermi to control the chain reaction of Atom Bomb.

Atom bomb is the Example of Nuclear fission.

How occur Nuclear Fission ?

When Neutron bombard on Uranium to breakdown uranium into small nucleus of Barium and Krypton with 3 Neutron and release the Heat. These 3 Neutrons go and further bombard on Uranium then make a chain reaction. This chain reaction of Uranium fission make Atom bomb Dangerous.

How does work the Nuclear reactor ?

In Nuclear reactor, there are 2 rod of Boron and Cadmium. These rod are used to absorb 2 Neutrons.

Graphite or Hard Water is used to slow the speed of third Neutron. Normal water is used to keep cool the reactor as a coolant.
